Polstrin Presents the Hide and Seek Seating Furniture Collection from the Lexová & Smetana Design Studio
The Hradec Králové-based manufacturer of upholstered furniture will present the Hide and Seek product line at this year’s Designblok festival, which will take place from 5 to 9 October 2022. The creators are designers Terezie Lexová and Štěpán Smetana.
Polstrin is following the successful association with the design duo that led to the Infinite modular seating collection, which won the prestigious international BigSEE award in 2021. The new Hide and Seek lounge furniture collection consists of an armchair, a sofa and a lounge chair that captivate with their organic shapes and meditative shades of premium Danish Kvadrat upholstery fabrics. The collection extends Polstrin’s design range and reflects the idea of modern and comfortable seating, designed not only for home interiors but also for public spaces such as hotel lobbies, other lobbies and relaxation areas. With its bold morphology and choice of first-class materials, it aims to attract the attention of interior designers and architects in the Czech Republic and abroad.
„We have been given complete creative freedom by Polstrin on the basis of our previous cooperation and mutual trust. The modern technological foundation and experience of Polstrin’s employees opened the door for us to create a revolutionary product that pushes the portfolio of a traditional Czech company toward high standards of global design,“ says designer and collection co-creator Štěpán Smetana. „As children, we used to build hide-and-seek shelters out of cushions and blankets in the middle of the living room and create our own little world. We also found ourselves in our own playful world when designing the new collection for Polstrin, where we made the individual pillows and free-formed them together to create the Hide and Seek collection,“ adds Terezie Lexová, designer and other half of the Lexová & Smetana creative duo.
„Due to the specific shape and optical lightness, where the individual elements are subtly connected to one another, the production is technologically very demanding. An important aspect was the selection of the upholstery fabrics, which emphasize high quality and elasticity. The choice naturally fell on the Danish studio Kvadrat, one of the highest quality and most progressive textile manufacturers in the world,“ says Karel Pacák, director of Polstrin. For the sample pieces, Lexová & Smetana selected the Kvadrat Planum in red, sage and slate and Uniform Melange in a universal beige tone. All models can also be made to measure in other shades from the official book of samples.
The Hide and Seek sofa will be on display for the first time at the Designblok festival from 5 to 9 October 2022 at Superstudio Gabriel Loci at Holečkova 106/10, Prague 5. It will then become part of Polstrin’s permanent portfolio.
